New for 2009-2010

Page history last edited by aodom@... 1 mo ago

The newly revised Extended Standards must be used for the 2009-10 school year and can be found at www.ksde.org. Some of the indicator numbering has been changed, and some alignments have been changed. The clarifying examples have been posted separately.

Sign off by an administrator is required! Butler County Special Ed. will use the following procedure:

  • Teacher will choose indicators and design activities to be used to assess the indicators
  • Teacher will complete the Proposed Testing Activities worksheet and submit to Lisa Arndt for preapproval (deadline is Dec. 1!!)
  • Lisa will review the worksheets and sign off on acceptable activities; the worksheet will be returned to the teacher; teachers may resubmit new or altered activities if needed
  • Teacher will administer the alternate assessment during the testing window using activities from the preapproved list; teacher does not have to use all the activities listed as long as sufficient evidence is gathered for scoring; teaching may not use different or unapproved activities
  • Upon completion of testing and compilation of portfolios and prior to scoring, teacher will submit both the portfolio and the preapproved list of activities to a building administrator along with the CETE/KSDE sign off sheet and master scorer sheet
  • The administrator will review the activities used in the assessment, compare them to the preapproved list, and sign off on the CETE/KSDE worksheets; administrators will only approve those activities that received prior approval from Lisa Arndt
  • Once the building administrator has signed off on the portfolio, the assessment may be scored

Administrative sign off is to ensure:

  • Indicators are aligned to the activities chosen for the student
  • NO functional activities will be used for the KAA (per USDOE)
  • Appropriate assessable activities are used for the assessment (a student's opinion is not an acceptable activity; how does the student fail?)
  • People serving as scorers do not enter scores on CETE
  • Scores are confidential and sent to the recorder individually (this means that each score sheet must be put into its own separate envelope after being scored)
  • Scores are only given to evidence provided; if evidence is missing it will receive a score of 0

All indicators must by entered by December 30, 2009 or have preapproval from KSDE; students entering a district after Dec. 30 will not be tested

Science extended standards: you must choose one indicator from each of the first 4 standards; the 5th indicator may be chosen from any of the 7 standards

All indicators will be open to students this year. The restrictions about using indicators that a student scored 4 or 5 on in the previous year will be reinstituted for the 2010-11 school year

The new CETE evidence label must be used this year (here is a Word 07 version; the Excel version is available from CETE)

There are no assessments for writing or history-government this year

All teachers who administer the KAA must be retrained this year in order to meet the new requirements

If portfolio guidelines as outlined above are not followed, the administrator who signed off on the portfolio will be contacted
